A note on seed dispersal by Little Corellas Cacatua sanguinea
نویسندگان
چکیده
A flock of Little Corellas Cacatua sanguinea deposited six large American Sweetgum (Liquidambar) Liquidambar styraciflua fruit and three Mediterranean Cypress Cupressus sempervirens cones under the canopy a Yellow Box Eucalyptus melliodora in suburban backyard Albury, New South Wales. Subsequent searches encountered four further Boxes with evidence pruning by Corellas. This is first record actual seed dispersal species, as well use food. These observations underline importance psittacids incidental dispersers plant seed.

Seed dispersal by neotropical seed predators.
From a plant's perspective, the difference between a seed predator and a seed disperser should be straightforward: attract animals that will disperse seeds and defend seeds from potential predators. Unlike pulp-eating frugivores, seed predators regularly encounter diverse plant protective mechanisms. The purpose of this paper is to examine feeding constraints, morphological adaptations, and the...

We study how the speed of spread for an integrodifference equation depends on the dispersal pattern of individuals. When the dispersal kernel has finite variance, the central limit theorem states that convolutions of the kernel with itself will approach a suitably chosen Gaussian distribution. Despite this fact, the speed of spread cannot be obtained from the Gaussian approximation. We give sev...
متن کاملEffects of landscape corridors on seed dispersal by birds.
Habitat fragmentation threatens biodiversity by disrupting dispersal. The mechanisms and consequences of this disruption are controversial, primarily because most organisms are difficult to track. We examined the effect of habitat corridors on long-distance dispersal of seeds by birds, and tested whether small-scale (<20 meters) movements of birds could be scaled up to predict dispersal of seed...
متن کاملOverseas seed dispersal by migratory birds.
Long-distance dispersal (LDD) promotes the colonization of isolated and remote habitats, and thus it has been proposed as a mechanism for explaining the distributions of many species. Birds are key LDD vectors for many sessile organisms such as plants, yet LDD beyond local and regional scales has never been directly observed nor quantified. By sampling birds caught while in migratory flight by ...
